Editor's Note
Summer is coming.
Your scalp needs a plan.

Hi curlfriend — welcome to the June Ritual Edit.

May was about growth — building consistency, tracking progress, and building momentum. June is about protection. Because all of that work you put in during April and May? Summer can undo it fast if you're not prepared.

Heat dries out the scalp. Sweat creates the perfect environment for buildup and inflammation. Pool chlorine strips everything. UV exposure weakens the hair shaft from the outside in. And most people don't adjust their routine at all when the season shifts — they just wonder why their hair feels different.

This month we're getting ahead of it. Same core routine, but with a few intentional adjustments for the season. And at the end of the month — something I've been working on all spring is finally dropping.

What Summer Does to Your Scalp
☀️
01
Heat & UV Exposure

Direct sun dries out the scalp, disrupts moisture balance, and weakens the hair shaft. Prolonged UV exposure breaks down the proteins in your strands from the outside in.

Cleanse more frequently, seal with oil after wash day
💧
02
Sweat & Buildup

Sweat mixed with product residue creates a film over the follicles — blocking sebum flow and creating the exact environment where scalp inflammation starts. It's not the sweat alone, it's what it mixes with.

Scalp cleanse within 24–48hrs of heavy sweat

03
Chlorine & Pool Water

Chlorine strips the scalp's natural oils and disrupts pH balance. It's not just drying — it actively damages the hair cuticle and makes your strands more porous, which means they lose moisture faster after every pool session.

Protect what you built.
Stay consistent through the heat.

The goal this month isn't to overhaul your routine — it's to adjust it for the season. More frequent cleansing when you sweat. Oil sealing after wash day to protect against UV and moisture loss. Immediate post-pool care. Small adjustments that make a big difference by August.

Summer-Adjusted Routine
Same foundation. Summer upgrades.
01
Tea Tree & Ginseng Scalp Cleanser — more often
Your pre-shampoo scalp treatment works harder in summer. Apply to dry scalp before every wash — and in summer, that might mean every 5–7 days instead of every week. If you sweat heavily, use it within 48 hours.
After the pool: rinse hair immediately, then use the cleanser at your next wash. Don't let chlorine sit.
02
Cocomint Gentle Shampoo + Creamy Conditioner
Keep this as your cleanse-and-hydrate pairing. In summer, focus the conditioner on ends only — your scalp doesn't need the extra weight in the heat, but your ends need protection from dryness and UV damage.
Deep condition every other wash day in summer. The Lemon Avocado Masque is your best move here.
03
Hibiscus Hair & Scalp Oil — seal after wash day
Add this to your post-wash routine in June. Apply to damp hair and scalp after styling to seal moisture in and create a light barrier against UV exposure and heat from the environment.
A small amount goes a long way — focus on the scalp and ends, not the length.
04
Milk & Honey Moisture Mist — daily still
Summer air can be humid but your hair can still be dry. Keep the daily mist going — especially on protective styles where ends are exposed to the sun.
Mist your scalp edges too if you're wearing styles with exposed hairline.
